How Much Hair Fall Is Normal?
What counts as typical daily hair shedding, and the signs that suggest it might be worth more attention.

A rough benchmark
Losing somewhere in the range of dozens of hairs a day is generally considered typical, though the exact number varies with hair density, length and how you count (a hairbrush collects more visible strands than a quick look in the shower drain). Longer hair simply makes normal shedding more visible, not necessarily more severe.
Signs worth paying attention to
A sustained increase over several weeks - noticeably more hair on your pillow, in the brush, or in the shower, consistently rather than on one bad day - is a more meaningful signal than a single count. Thinning concentrated at the crown, parting or hairline, rather than spread evenly, is also worth noting.
Tracking it sensibly
Rather than obsessively counting strands, it's more useful to notice patterns over weeks: does the parting look wider than it did a few months ago? Is a ponytail visibly thinner? These gradual comparisons tend to be more informative than a single day's shed count, which naturally varies quite a bit day to day.

Dozens is a commonly cited rough range, though it varies by person - the trend over weeks matters more than any single day’s count.
